SMM April 17 News: This week, the price of artificial graphite remained stable with no significant fluctuations. On the supply and demand side, the production schedule of downstream battery cell manufacturers showed no significant improvement WoW, so the overall operating rate of the anode market was basically flat compared to last week. Cost side, the price of graphitisation tolling services remained relatively stagnant, the price of low-sulphur petroleum coke remained stable with slight fluctuations, and the price of needle coke decreased by 1.8%. Comprehensive cost accounting showed a decline in anode costs this week. However, as most of the raw materials currently used in artificial graphite anodes were purchased during the previous high-price period, the price of artificial graphite anodes remained firm this week. Looking ahead, influenced by tariff policies, the demand for artificial graphite anode materials from downstream battery cells is expected to decrease, while costs may also rise due to tariffs. Under the interaction of supply-demand relationship and costs, the price trend of artificial graphite is expected to remain relatively stable. This week, the price of natural graphite anode materials remained stable. On the supply and demand side, there was no significant fluctuation WoW. Cost side, the price of upstream raw materials decreased this week. However, due to the lag in production, the current price of natural graphite remains relatively stable. Looking ahead, under the influence of tariffs, downstream demand may decline, and the processing of natural graphite anode materials is expected to see a slight decrease. In January, national passenger car producers' new energy wholesale estimates reached 900,000 units, up 1% YoY.
According to the latest data from the Passenger Car Association, in December 2025, producers with new energy wholesale sales exceeding 10,000 units accounted for 93% of the total wholesale sales of passenger NEVs that month. Based on preliminary January data, these producers achieved sales of 830,000 units in January. As most producers have already locked in their major sales figures, by applying the structural proportion from the previous month to the current month's data, the estimated wholesale sales of passenger NEVs nationwide in January were 900,000 units. According to comprehensive preliminary monthly association data: the estimated wholesale sales of NEVs by national passenger car producers in January 2026 were 900,000 units, up 1% YoY.
